The deck of cards will take you back into the magical movie ‘Now You See Me’, a story of a group of illusionists. The anatomy and characteristic of the famous typeface ‘Franklin Gothic’ is explored and represented on the cards. Various concepts such as magic, illusion, belief, and heist, elements and the movie characters are shown while understanding the role of typography in representing a concept and creating a specific experienc/vibe. The cards in each suit are also based on different characters of the movie, their roles, special magic tricks and their dialogues.

Typeface
This deck of cards demanded a typeface that is suitable to both serious and lighthearted content, similar to the plot of the movie. I chose Franklin Gothic as it provides the flexibility to play with the concepts of magic. It is one of the oldest typefaces with numerous applications.
Color Palette
Magic is about creating excitement and attention-grabbing. To give these cards a magical feel, I used striking Neon colors. The color palette is electric and adding the gradients creates a perception of depth and illustrate the play of light.
Creative Process
The design process started by taking visual cues from the movie, understanding the key concepts of magic and the key features of the typeface. I then created multiple moodboards of the movie posters, scenes from the movies and looked for references that represent magic and illusion. The next stage was creating a system for the cards and its content. I then started sketching out the ideas and implementing them digitally.
